Abstract: In recent years, Cr-doped garnets have attracted considerable attention due to their unique properties. However, interpreting the spectroscopic features of Cr3+ ions in garnet structure remains challenging, primarily because of the wide variation in crystal field strength, which results in Cr3+ ions occupying octahedral sites with different local environments. This complexity is also relevant for nanostructured materials such as Cr3+-doped nanopowders. Despite extensive studies, many questions regarding the luminescence behavior of Cr3+ ions in such nanomaterials remain unclear. In this work, we report on the optical properties of Cr3+:GGG (Gadolinium Gallium Garnet) nanoceramics synthesized using high isostatic pressure (HIP) method at relatively low temperature.
