University of Zilina​

The University of Žilina (UNIZA), located in Žilina, Slovakia, was established on October 1, 1953. Originally named the College of Railway Transport, it was separated from the Czech College of Technology in Prague. Over time, it evolved through several name changes and relocations before becoming the University of Žilina.
  • 1953: Established as the College of Railway Transport, with faculties including transport, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and a military faculty. 
  • 1959: Renamed the College of Transport. 
  • 1960: Relocated from Prague to Žilina. 
  • 1980: Renamed the College of Transport and Communications in Žilina. 
  • Post-1989: Expanded with new faculties, including the Faculty of Management and Informatics, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and Faculty of Electrical Engineering. 
  • Current: Now known as the University of Žilina (UNIZA), a leading educational and scientific institution in Slovakia, with seven faculties.
